Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Final Edition to Send off Supercar

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Final Edition will make its world debut at next week’s Los Angeles auto show, signalling the impending end of the German supercar’s production run.

Mercedes-Benz Australia senior corporate communications manager David McCarthy told CarAdvice the two teaser images uploaded to Mercedes-Benz AMG’s official Facebook page (pictured top and middle) provided a sneak peek at the SLS AMG Final Edition, and confirmed its planned LA unveiling.

Without revealing specific details – recent reports out Germany have suggested the Final Edition will gain a new front bumper, bonnet, grille, a tweaked interior and special edition plaques – McCarthy said the special edition model is a good chance to reach local shores in mid to late 2014, following an anticipated overseas launch in February.

With aesthetic changes – including the teased black wheels and carbonfibre lower front splitter – set to make up the majority of revisions, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Final Edition will be motivated by the 6.2-litre V8, which produces 420kW/650Nm in regular form and 464kW/635Nm in hardcore Black Series trim (pictured below).

First launched locally in 2010 priced from $464,000, Mercedes-Benz has sold 105 SLS AMGs in Australia, comprising Gullwings and Roadsters, including 14 this year.

Mercedes-Benz AMG head Ola Kallenius confirmed long-term plans for a replacement for the SLS AMG at September’s Frankfurt motor show, as well as the previously spied 911-rivalling ‘SLC AMG’.

Stay tuned for full details of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Final Edition following its official unveiling.
